Introduction
Established in 1969, the College of Engineering of NCU is now comprised of the following departments and graduate institutes: the Interdisciplinary Program, College of Engineering, the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, the Department of Civil Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Graduate Institute of Environmental Engineering, the Graduate Institute of Construction Engineering and Management, the Graduate Institute of Material Science and Engineering, Graduate Institute of Energy Engineering, and Graduate Program in Opto-mechatronics Engineering.
The undergraduate education aims at educating students to become excellent engineers equipped with sound and the most up-to-date science and engineering knowledge. Fundamental courses related to physics, chemistry, and mathematics are emphasized before students step into their specific fields. Graduate program aims at educating students to be independent researchers or skillful engineers. Students graduated from the College of Engineering are very welcomed by employers in industries, research institutes, and other sectors due to their excellent performance.
The College of Engineering consists of a strong group of about 100 faculty members and more than 2,600 students, including both undergraduates and graduates. The faculty members are very active in their own research fields and obtain research funds granted from the National Science Council, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, and some other governmental organizations. Research collaborations with domestic industries are also encouraged. The efforts and contributions of the faculty have been well recognized by people or organizations that have had cooperation with or have been assisted by this college. Well facilitated with advanced research equipment, the research activities can be actively carried on, and the contribution of the research are well observed through the technical reports and the academic journals papers published and the patents obtained.
The College of Engineering has established research centers including Center of Bridge Engineering Research and High-resolution Analytical Instrumentation Center, etc. Each research center, designed to be inter-disciplinary, is also attracting more and more attention from the academic community and from the domestic industry. These centers have brought together the best minds in the neighboring areas of many different knowledge fields and generated excellent achievements.
For more than a quarter century, the continuous efforts and outstanding research performance of the faculty have made the College of Engineering of NCU now ranked as one of the best engineering colleges in Taiwan. With the beautiful campus, the outstanding and enthusiastic faculty members, and the up-to-date research activities, we are confident that the College of Engineering of NCU is an excellent learning environment for students.
